As you compose your 3-page, well-organized, typed, double-spaced statement, aim to create a document for inclusion in your professional portfolio when applying for a promotion or a new job. Consider the following four questions in your statement: What is your approach to advising students? What influences and defines your beliefs and practices? What theory/theories do you espouse as part of your advising philosophy? What are the key elements and aspects to being an effective advisor?
